CONRAD BELAU

Conrad is an award-winning, non-binary, hard-of-hearing director and actor
based in Alberta.

Their theatre credits are vast and varied, with favourites including Walt Whitman's Secret (the Frank Theatre Company), The Virgin Trial (Alberta Theatre Projects) and Still Stands The House (Wick Productions). Conrad finds a great joy in working on new works; in encouraging emerging playwrights and gathering a group of unique storytellers to flesh out and bring new and exciting ideas to life. Some of these projects include ZOO (Reckless Daughter Creative/Common Ground Festival), breathe (Shhh Productions) and If I Was A Fairytale Princess… (Golden Hour Productions). They are the creator and performer of the Instagram Livestream phenomenons Mono Man Mia, Mono mAnnie Jr and ChicagOne.

Conrad has worked with the prestigious Director’s Lab North (Toronto) and Toronto Fringe’s Theatre Entrepreneur’s Networking & Training program. They’ve participated in Ghost River Theatre’s 3-Week National Devised Theatre Intensive, worked with Broadway Dreams and continues to connect and educate themselves wherever possible. They work as an artistic associate with Theatre BSMT and Untold Physical Theatre.

Conrad has been awarded both Best Director of a Play (Bright Lights) and Best Director of a Musical (Mono Man Mia) at the BroadwayWorld Regional Awards of the Decade.

Conrad thrives in queer collaboration and risk. Their work is chaotic and bare boned explosions of text and sound.
